Kimpton has opened its first resort in Portugal with the debut of Kimpton Atlântico Algarve on São Rafael Beach. The 149-room property marks the brand’s entry into the Portuguese resort market and expands IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio in Europe.
Located near Albufeira, the hotel blends Kimpton’s design-focused identity with what the brand calls “a refined take on local luxury.” The interiors were designed by Nini Andrade Silva and feature natural materials like stone, linen and timber, paired with a color palette inspired by the Mediterranean.
“At Kimpton, we invite guests to enjoy something truly unexpected – a stay that invigorates the soul and leaves them feeling energised. From bold design, vibrant flavours and immersive moments, we offer a new kind of luxury that’s both sophisticated and playful. Every detail at Kimpton Atlântico Algarve is thoughtfully curated to celebrate our guests, from locally inspired dining to warm, intuitive service and more. We are looking forward to bringing a fresh expression of luxury to Portugal’s south coast – one that celebrates both place and people,” said Catarina Simões, General Manager, Kimpton Atlântico Algarve.
The resort includes several food and beverage venues. Terra serves as a bar, café and market offering pastries with local ingredients like toasted almonds and Madeiran honey. Sombra focuses on local seafood in a garden setting, and Marés is a beachside restaurant serving produce and meats such as Piri Piri chicken. The rooftop bar Zénite offers cocktails and local wines with views of the Atlantic.
The 1,800-square-meter Wellness Hub includes an indoor pool, hydroactive spa circuit with flotation tank, jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish baths and a gym. Guests can also book personalized massages and therapy sessions.
As with all Kimpton hotels, pets are welcome at no extra charge. The resort also features Kimpton’s “Forgot It? We’ve Got It!” amenity program and daily Social Hour with complimentary drinks.
Kimpton was founded in 1981 by Bill Kimpton, who aimed to create hotels that connect guests to their surroundings. The Algarve resort joins other European Kimpton properties including Kimpton Fitzroy London, Kimpton Los Monteros Marbella and Kimpton Main Frankfurt.
