UK: Independent hotel group Bespoke Hotels is set to open a property in Newcastle under the Hotel Gotham brand, set within the city’s former fire and police station on Pilgrim Street.
Announced in June last year, plans for the Grade II-listed property will be developed in two phases.
The first phase launches this September with 57 rooms in the old fire station, including six suites.
In early 2026, phase two will see the adjoining former police station transformed into a further 30 rooms, including Gotham Sanctum Suites.
A glazed corridor will link the two buildings. An events space will also be added in the former Court Rooms, designed for weddings and private functions for up to 120 guests.
Dining options include Siren and Fire, two restaurant and bar spaces inspired by the building’s heritage.
Guests will have access to Club Brass, Gotham’s signature members’ club, which will span two hidden floors.
Commenting on the launch, Chris Thompson, general manager at Hotel Gotham, said: “There’s nothing like this in the North East. Gotham is where heritage meets hedonism. Newcastle is a city full of energy and personality, and we feel this new space really reflects that. We’ve worked hard to honour the history of the buildings while creating something fresh and memorable.
“Whether people are staying with us, dining at Siren or enjoying a drink at Fire, we want them to feel like they’re part of something special from the moment they walk through the door. Every corridor, every cocktail and every corner tells a story – and this one belongs to Newcastle,” he added.
