This project is a significant step in expanding the hotel infrastructure in Aachen, a city located at the crossroads of Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, attracting both business and leisure travelers.
The hotel is part of a larger mixed-use development that will include student apartments, office space, and a parking garage with around 300 spaces.
“We are delighted to further expand our innovative brand collaboration into the German hotel market with this project. It is the first hotel project in our company’s history that we will open in the attractive border triangle location of Aachen,” – David Etmenan, Chief Executive Officer & Owner of Novum Hospitality.
The development is expected to strengthen Aachen’s economy and improve the area’s hotel offerings, serving a growing demand for short- and medium-term accommodation.
The design of the new hotel will be inspired by the city’s history, with the name “Aixley” referencing Aachen’s rich cultural heritage. The project will incorporate modern amenities such as co-working spaces and a “living lobby,” catering to the evolving needs of contemporary travelers, including digital nomads and business professionals.
The Holiday Inn – the niu Aixley will also follow environmentally sustainable standards, with energy-efficient building technologies and a resource-conscious operating concept. The hotel will target BREEAM certification, contributing to Aachen’s sustainable urban development.
The project aligns with both Novum Hospitality’s and IHG’s broader strategies to expand their footprint in key European cities, as it strengthens the hotel infrastructure and provides high-quality accommodation options in one of Germany’s most important urban locations.
Furthermore, IHG Hotels & Resorts has strengthened its presence in Germany through a partnership with NOVUM Hospitality, aiming to double its footprint with over 200 hotels in nearly 100 cities. The collaboration has already led to the opening of three new Garner hotels in Hamburg Nord, Elmshorn, and Augsburg Nord. Additionally, the two companies plan a dual-branded hotel complex in Leipzig, featuring a Holiday Inn and Candlewood Suites, set to open in 2028. This partnership supports IHG’s expansion strategy in the German market.
