Scandic Go expands in Finland with new hotel in Turku

The new Scandic Go hotel in Turku is set to open in 2026, following the renovation of part of the former Scandic Atrium building, while the main Atrium structure remains under development. This addition to the Scandic Go portfolio aims to provide affordable, sustainable, and smart accommodations for guests. 

“Our continued expansion of Scandic Go in Turku is perfectly timed, given that the city is actively investing in urban development with major projects, such as building an event arena that will attract business activity and leisure visitors. Our new hotel will also meet the increasing demand from a new, more conscious generation of hotel guests” – Jens Mathiesen, President & CEO of Scandic Hotels Group. 

The hotel will be located in a prime spot, near the city’s harbor and university area, within walking distance of the Market Square. The renovation is scheduled to begin in August 2025 and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026. It will cater to both business and leisure travelers, with easy access to city buses and bike routes.

With Turku’s growing importance as a business and tourist hub, Scandic sees a strong opportunity to strengthen its presence in the city.

Turku, which is an exciting, rapidly growing city, is important to us, and I’m convinced that our new Scandic Go will be the perfect complement to our existing offering” – Jesper Engman, Senior Vice President Portfolio Development.

The new hotel will also meet the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, a certification that recognizes sustainability in the hospitality sector. Scandic plans to continue expanding the Scandic Go brand, with additional properties in Oulu and Helsinki. This new opening adds to Scandic’s growing presence in Turku, where the company will soon operate 881 rooms.

But apart form these openings, Scandic continues to expand its presence across Northern Europe with several new projects planned in key cities. Recently, the hotel group opened The Dock 69°39 by Scandic in Tromsø, Norway, adding 305 new rooms, which nearly doubles its hotel capacity in the city. This growth solidifies Scandic’s position as a leading hotel provider in the Nordic region.

The expansion also includes significant developments in Sweden. In Uppsala, Scandic is partnering with Vasakronan to open a 236-room hotel in the Södra City area, while plans are underway for a new alpine hotel in Sälen, set to open in 2027/2028. Furthermore, the group has introduced its second Scandic Go hotel in Stockholm, offering affordable accommodations in the city’s Kungsholmen district, and is expanding the Scandic Go brand with new properties planned in Gothenburg and Umeå for 2026.

These expansions highlight Scandic’s strategic growth in key Nordic markets, catering to both business and leisure travelers with a diverse range of offerings, from premium hotels to more affordable options under the Scandic Go brand.
