A new networking group has been launched for HR professionals in the travel industry.

Called HR in Travel, it has been developed by Best Workplaces in Travel, which was founded by travel industry recruiter Gail Kenny.

She described HR in Travel as “a game-changing initiative”, adding: “Our community is designed to provide a platform for HR and people leaders to connect, share knowledge, and grow together. We believe that by doing so, we can elevate the role of HR in the travel industry and contribute to the sector’s continued growth and success.”

Alongside Kenny, the founding line-up includes Jo Harley, co-founder, Korero; Nicky Lyle, HR/people director, Hotelplan UK; Leah Spence, people and culture manager, First Class Travel Group; Claire Steiner, UK director, Global Travel & Tourism Partnership; Rebecca Thornley-Gibson, partner, DMH Stallard; Danny Waine, co-founder, ITT Future You; and Victoria Wilson, chief people officer, Travel Counsellors.

It will offer a membership directory, to help members to connect and collaborate, and a “safe, inclusive and confidential space” for HR professionals to share experiences, challenges and best practices “with like-minded people, free from commercial pressures”.

A series of events will be held, starting with the launch meeting on September 4 at Grant Thornton offices in London.

Hotelplan’s Lyle said: “One of the best things about working in HR is the natural collaboration that exists between people leaders.

“We also know that being in a senior or standalone HR role can sometimes feel isolating.

“That’s why a strong, supportive network is so powerful. As the role of HR continues to evolve at pace, I’m excited to be part of this new community. I look forward to engaging in relevant conversations, meeting new people and the continuous learning that will come through HR in Travel.”

Co-founder Harley added: “I’ve heard repeatedly how useful a focused, confidential space is for HR people in their own sector.

“This community is about connection, practical support and raising the way things are done together. Looking forward to the conversations ahead and being part of a super special network.”

HR in Travel goes live after the Best Workplaces in Travel awards ceremony on Monday July 7.
