Nicholson’s Pubs Collection is proud to announce the opening of The Wheatsheaf in the heart of Fitzrovia, following an extensive refurbishment.

Nicholson’s Pubs are known for their beautifully ornate pubs with individual style and charming personalities. The Wheatsheaf has a rich history, particularly as a popular haunt for London’s Bohemian set in the 1930s. It’s known for attracting literary figures like George Orwell and Dylan Thomas, and for being a place where Dylan Thomas met his wife, Caitlin Macnamara. The building was built in the 1930s in a mock-Tudor style to replicate the former building that stood in its place since 1738.

Retaining the pub’s unique characteristics and charm, the interiors have been given a much-needed modern lift. Inside, the pub has undergone a full remodel with an expansion to the upstairs space. Now called The Orwell Room, this upstairs area hosts a second bar, dining room and bookable space for events and business meetings. The interiors are reminiscent of a classic British pub with wooden floors, stunning beams and red leather sofa seating. The beautiful stained glass windows give the pub a cosy, intimate feel.

The pub serves a superb range of cask ales – including their own Nicholson’s Pale Ale brewed by St Austell Brewery in Cornwall – with guest craft beers on rotation throughout the year. Comforting pub classics make up the food menu, including hand-crafted specialty pies and a range of sandwiches, such as the ever popular Nicholson’s Club Sandwich. The Steak & Nicholson’s Pale Ale Pie was awarded gold at the British Pie Awards and a new partnership with Henry Weston’s Cider has seen a new Chicken, Mushroom & Henry Weston’s Cider pie added to the menu. Sunday roasts are served with roast potatoes, glazed parsnips, thyme-roasted carrots, broccoli, a Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
