This partnership aims to provide students with affordable short-term lodging at MEININGER’s 36 hotels across 26 cities in Europe. The company is also preparing for further hotel openings.
Strengthening intercultural exchange and student mobility
ESN, one of the largest student organizations in Europe, operates in over 40 countries with more than 1,000 higher education institutions as members. The network supports around 150,000 young people annually, helping them integrate into their host cities and providing essential information about their studies and local student life.
MEININGER and ESN target the same audience: young, open-minded people who want to discover new cultures and countries. This cooperation is therefore a logical and strong step for us. Together, we’re creating the right framework for affordable, intercultural experiences,”- Malin Widmarc-Nilsson, VP of Commerce at MEININGER Hotels
The partnership between ESN and MEININGER Hotels combines their shared goal of providing flexible and affordable lodging for students abroad. MEININGER’s hybrid hotel concept, which blends the amenities of traditional hotels with the social atmosphere of hostels, fits the needs of exchange students. With a variety of room options, ranging from private double rooms to dormitory beds, the partnership aims to deliver both comfort and value to students across Europe.
Expanding in Europe’s student hotspots
Currently, MEININGER Hotels operates 36 properties across Europe, with plans for future expansion in popular student cities such as Barcelona, Edinburgh, and Strasbourg. The group’s extensive portfolio is set to offer more flexibility for students, providing a mix of shared spaces and private rooms to suit diverse travel needs.
“MEININGER is a valuable addition to our network. We share the belief that intercultural exchange should not be a question of budget. Together, we’re making international mobility more accessible and promoting cultural encounters where they actually happen: on site,” Rui Vinha, Treasurer of ESN.
Supporting European educational mobility
MEININGER Hotels’ partnership with ESN highlights its ongoing commitment to young travelers and international education. Since its founding in 1999, MEININGER has been catering to the accommodation needs of families, school groups, and young adults. With its affordable, flexible, and high-quality offerings, MEININGER Hotels aligns with the goals of the Erasmus program, which has enabled over five million students to study abroad since 1987.
