The Tour de France for Women continues to grow in popularity year on year, although it has yet to reach the levels of its men’s equivalent. But audiences are certainly growing, having reached historic levels this year with an average of 2.2 million viewers for the first five stages according to Eurosport and France Télévisions.
“Three years ago, when we relaunched the event, the (sporting) level was very heterogeneous and we had to look for stage towns because there were no candidates. Today, there’s a real density and suspense, and towns are now jostling to host the event,” points out Christian Prudhomme, ASO’s Director of Cycling.
Performances not so far west

While the men’s Tour highlighted the north of France, with Lille as the start town, it was Brittany’s turn to shine at the start of this Women’s Tour. The start was held in Vannes, a much smaller town than Lille, but one that nonetheless benefited from the Tour’s spin-offs.
The city’s hotels boasted an occupancy rate of 77.8%, 10.5 points higher than at the same time last year. The average daily rate followed the same trajectory, up 14.6%, approaching the symbolic €100 mark. A fine performance (+32.5% RevPAR) for a destination that is not as much in the tourist spotlight as Brest, Rennes or Nantes.
The third stage of the Tour finishes in the west of France, in Angers. A city that is already becoming more and more popular with tourists, with 1.3 million visitors expected in 2024. The finish in the streets of the city attracted more than 10,000 spectators, according to the prefecture, testifying to the enthusiasm for the event.
