Banyan Group has expanded its portfolio in East China with the openings of Angsana Zhoushan and Homm Wenzhou Nanxijiang in Zhejiang Province. The launches increase the company’s presence in its largest market to 36 operating hotels as it marks 20 years in China.
The group plans to open two more hotels this year — Banyan Tree Zhuhai Phoenix Bay and Dhawa Beihai Weizhou Island — and is on track to celebrate its 100th global property in November with the Grand Opening of Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree in Singapore.
“These openings build on our growth momentum in China as we mark our 20-year anniversary and approach our 100th hotel globally. Zhejiang’s landscapes and cultural heritage are a perfect fit for Angsana’s spirit of exploration and Homm’s welcoming comfort. Both properties celebrate local traditions, promote ecological harmony, and reflect our commitment to design-led, sustainable hospitality,” said Philip Ding, SVP, Hotel Operations & Business Development, China, Banyan Group.
Angsana Zhoushan, Zhoushan, often called the “city of a thousand islands,” is known for fishing villages, ancient temples and coastal scenery. Angsana Zhoushan is located at the foothills of Wujian Mountain in Putuo District, adjacent to Wuling Wetland Park and overlooking the Thousand Island Coast east of Shanghai. The resort is 15 minutes from the ferry terminals with direct boat access to Putuo Mountain and Dongji Island.
The hotel design draws on the area’s maritime heritage with details inspired by fishing nets, knots, feathers and stone. It offers 222 guestrooms and villas, some with private onsen pools or courtyards. Facilities include the Angsana Spa, Angsana Onsen with 16 outdoor pools, an indoor heated pool, gym, yoga and meditation spaces, and a terrace for morning stretches.
Dining options include Cantonese cuisine at Chun Feng Restaurant, international dishes at Market Place, health-focused menus at Lingbo and afternoon tea in the lobby lounge. The “Angsana 101” programme provides cultural activities such as fish basket weaving, cloisonné enamel making and incense card workshops. Children ages 3 to 6 have access to the Terra Kids Club.
Homm Wenzhou Nanxijiang, Located between the Yandang Mountains and the Nanxi River, Homm Wenzhou Nanxijiang integrates Song Dynasty garden aesthetics with natural landscapes. The property has 100 rooms and suites, including 20 designed for families in a parent–child building.
The hotel’s hot spring complex includes 26 indoor and outdoor pools supplied by mineral wells, ranging from grotto springs to petal pools. An origami installation in the lobby represents Zhejiang’s endangered scaly-sided merganser, and each guest receives an origami keepsake at check-in.
Activities offered include hiking, riverside cycling, lawn stargazing and seasonal fruit picking. Family programmes highlight ecology and conservation. Dining venues are Nan Xiang Restaurant, Shanyin Bar and Star Bar, which serve local produce, teas, desserts and beverages.
Banyan Group continues to expand its portfolio in China as it approaches a global milestone later this year.
