Hospitality operator Bob W has expanded its presence in Stockholm with a long-term lease for a 33-unit serviced apartment property in the city’s Gamla Stan district.

The building, at Österlånggatan 26 near the Royal Palace and Stockholm Cathedral, has been operating as the Old Town Stay Hotel. It has now opened under the Bob W brand, while a staged refurbishment programme is under way to create a mix of studios and one-bedroom apartments for short and mid-term stays.

The move comes less than two months after the launch of Bob W Stockholm Norrmalm and marks the company’s second location in the Swedish capital. The firm now operates more than 5,000 units across 19 cities in 11 European countries.

Niko Karstikko, co-founder and chief executive of Bob W, said: “We’re investing heavily in the Nordics to establish a market-leading presence, and Sweden is at the heart of that strategy. Expanding in Stockholm – and especially into a district as culturally significant as Gamla Stan – is another step towards dominating our home region.”

The property is owned by developer Persi Fastighets AB, with Bob W advised on the lease by Nordic Growth Hub.

Taavi Pettai, vice president of real estate and Nordic lead at Bob W, added: “Sweden remains a strategic growth market for Bob W, and our ambitions go well beyond Stockholm. This new property in Gamla Stan underscores our long-term commitment to the country.”

Gamla Stan is among Europe’s best-preserved medieval centres and attracts both domestic and international visitors. The district offers good transport connections by metro and ferry and is within walking distance of major attractions, restaurants and heritage architecture.

Bob W said the acquisition aligns with its broader strategy of converting underused or outdated hospitality assets into sustainable, tech-enabled apartments. The leadership team is due to present its plans at property trade fair Expo Real in Munich from 6 to 8 October.
