This autumn, Arthur’s Market – a new premium grocery store and eclectic dining destination – is set to open on the King’s Road.

Designed for life on the move, the grocery offers freshly brewed takeaway coffees, artisan sandwiches and crisp salads amongst a range of premium produce including a fish counter like no other in West London offering a unique and exclusive range.

The market will also be home to two counter-top dining options: a hand roll and sushi bar, ASA Izakaya, and a wood fired pintxos tapas bar, Salvador. In the evening, the entire market space will transform into an intimate dining destination with ASA Izakaya extending its menu after hours.

Arthur’s Market: fishmonger, grocer, deli and butcher

By day, Arthur’s Market will be home to premium groceries where locals and destination foodies alike can get their weekly shop filled with bespoke items. Expect artisanal cheeses, indulgent dairy and seasonal fruit and vegetables including jewel-like strawberries and perfectly cultivated melons as well as rare Japanese delicacies sure to add that professional touch to any home entertaining.

Within the market will also be a fishmonger, the only fishmonger to offer such an exclusive and distinctive range in the area, at an affordable price point. Not only will locals be able to get their hand on some of the freshest, classic fish varieties, but they will also be able to source the likes of whole Spanish tuna, carabineros, blue belly prawns and a variety of different types of fresh sea urchin. Local fish is sourced from the best quality suppliers in Cornwall and Scotland, with a unique selection of imported Japanese goods rarely found elsewhere in the UK.

Additionally, Arthur’s Market will also have a butchers counter which will be supplying locals with the highest quality cuts of meat.

The products from both the fishmongers and butcher will also be supplying the onsite dining counters within Arthur’s Market. ASA Izakaya will showcase the fish and meat with a Japanese menu, and Salvador offers a European menu.

Across the pantry shelves in the market, shoppers will find all their store cupboard ingredients, the finest olive oils and luxurious caviar, as well as the market’s own-labelled wine, crafted in partnership with its ‘big brother’ pub and restaurant around the corner in Belgravia, the Prince Arthur.

ASA Izakaya: from day to night

Tucked within Arthur’s Market is ASA Izakaya, a sleek, modern handroll and sushi bar inspired by the vibrant izakaya culture of Japan. Complete with counter seating for 12 people at lunch, guests are invited to watch the chefs at work creating dishes using fresh fish sourced daily from Arthur’s fishmonger.

By night, fresh produce from the market will be cleared away, and blinds rolled over the shelves allowing for ASA to extend into an intimate, sit-down dining experience for up to 30 people.

From day to night ASA will be serving intricate Japanese specialty dishes such as Squid Kasudzuke Nigiri (squid cured in sake kasu and vinegar with akazu seasoned rice and freshly grated wasabi), Nigiri of Scallop, and Langoustine Nigiri (langoustine, langoustine miso and sweet soy sauce).

ASA will also offer an extensive caviar and roe selection, including:

  • A variety of caviars (including a 1.7kg tin sold by weight, which will always be open in-house)
  • Pink roe, trout roe, salmon roe
  • Pollock and cod roe
  • Caviar cream and frozen roe

No Japanese restaurant is complete without sake, and the offering at ASA matches the finest quality of the food, including sought after sakes such as Dassai Beyond by Asahi Shuzō, Juyondai by Yamagate Prefecture and Isojiman “Largo” by Shizuoka Prefecture.

ASA is headed up by Chef Shaulan Steenson who boasts a wealth of experience from celebrated restaurants such as Endo at the Rotunda, Hakkoku in Japan and Sushi Jin in Singapore. Using as much British produce as possible, Chef Shaulan Steenson is passionate about offering a fresh perspective on Japanese cuisine.

Salvador

The second counter experience is Salvador, centred around a wood-fired grill with 25 counter seats available. Drawing on the spirit of pintxos, guests can enjoy flavour-packed European small plates, exceptional meat sourced from Arthur’s butcher and a curated wine bar offering bottles from across the globe.

At Salvador, expect punchy dishes such as Beef Tartar with Barrel Aged Soy, Bone Marrow and a Confit Egg Yolk or a Pork Pressa with an Nduja Bean Stew and Wood First Peppers, alongside a daily rotating fresh exclusive fish and meat dish from the fishmonger and butcher counter, such as A5 wagyu and unique fish important from Japan.

With premium ingredients at the core of its offering, Arthur’s Market will be a celebration of great food. Whether you are in search of premium ingredients to enjoy at home, or a break away from the kitchen, at Arthur’s Market there is something for everyone.
