The Gara Rock Hotel and Spa, a luxury resort overlooking the South Devon coast near Salcombe, has been brought to market for an undisclosed sum.
Perched on a clifftop in the South Hams, the resort comprises 33 suites, apartments, cottages and letting bedrooms, all recently refurbished.
Originally a coastguard cottage, the site was developed into a hotel in the early 20th Century and has hosted guests including Sir Laurence Olivier and Sir John Betjeman.
Since 2017, around £11.2m has been invested in refurbishments.
Facilities include a spa with indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, steam room and treatment rooms, as well as four food and beverage outlets, a cinema room and landscaped outdoor areas.
The hotel, which has won Small Hotel of the Year at the Devon Tourism Awards in both 2023 and 2024, is also a “popular” wedding and events venue.
Christie and Co, specialist property adviser, said that there was potential to expand this part of the business, alongside opportunities to add solar power generation or glamping, subject to consents.
Stephen Champion, director of hotels South West at Christie and Co, said: “Prime opportunities like Gara Rock Hotel and Spa, with its spectacular location and highly regarded reputation, rarely come to market.
“This thriving business provides potential purchasers with numerous upside options, and we expect this unique hotel to appeal to a wide array of buyers, both domestic and international.”
