Opa Authentic Greek Cuisine has filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California. In its filing, the group notes that it is seeking court-supervised liquidation of its assets rather than reorganization.

Opa lists assets between $100,000 and $500,000, with liabilities between $100,000 and $500,000. At least five locations have closed as part of the bankruptcy process, in Campbell, Morgan Hill, Santa Clara, San Jose, and Walnut Creek, Calif.

The filing also includes its food production subsidiary, Opa Signature Foods, which has also petitioned to liquidate its assets. Co-debtors listed in court documents include chief executive officer Molly Adams and her husband Marcus Adams.

Opa Restaurant Group first opened in San Jose in 2008. According to local reports, the concept grew to six locations at one point. According to Opa’s website, which is now archived, the concept’s menu included gyro fries, falafel bites, spicy sliders, a gyro meat platter, dips and spreads served with warm pita bread, salads and soups, pitas, and signature dishes such as Moussaka, Pasticio, Lemon Chicken Orzo, wood-fired flatbreads, pan-seared mahi mahi, skewers, and lamb chops.

Restaurant bankruptcies have experienced an uptick in the past year and a half. According to the United States Courts website, this activity, however, is not specific to the restaurant industry, as bankruptcy filings overall have risen 11.5% versus last year, while S&P Global reports that the number of filings recorded so far in 2025 is at its highest level since 2010.
