Rockliffe Hall has begun a multimillion-pound upgrade of its golf facilities as part of a wider programme of renovations at the North East resort.
The five-star hotel, based in Hurworth near Darlington, has already introduced a new TrackMan Range and Golf Academy, while further works include a two-phase bunker renovation project and the purchase of 50 new pieces of course machinery.
The updated driving range has been fitted with TrackMan’s ball-tracking technology across eight bays. The resort said the system offers a “data-rich experience” for players of all abilities, complemented by tailored coaching at the new golf academy.
From now until December 2026, the golf team will carry out a full bunker redevelopment, cutting the overall size of bunkers from 10,000 sq m to 6,000 sq m. The work will involve reshaping, installation of Profusion Blinder lining and the addition of premium China Clay sand.
Rockliffe Hall has also renewed its supply partnership with Toro, expanding its machinery fleet from 42 to 50. The additions, including two Ventrac tractors, will support further course management such as drainage, overseeding and tree works.
The resort’s championship course – designed by Hawtree and opened in 2009 – features lakes, wetland areas and 78 bunkers, with tees ranging from beginner level to the 7,879-yard Gold Tees, the longest in the UK. It is part of 59Club’s Eminent Collection and was recognised in the organisation’s 2025 global awards.
Beyond golf, Rockliffe Hall has been expanding its hospitality offering. Culinary director James Close oversees food across the resort, including the Clubhouse restaurant, which serves seasonal dishes by day and steak in the evening. A new Mediterranean restaurant, Terra Riviera, is due to open in October, alongside the resort’s 50,000 sq ft spa and spa garden.
