
Since the turn of the millennium, rapid industrialization and an export-oriented economic boom led to massive urbanization, the creation of megapolises, and the creation of a large urban middle class consumer base in China. This particular consumer base was instrumental in driving domestic as well as international investment in China. As incomes rose, consumers began acquiring new tastes and wine consumption rose to prominence in China. However, wine consumption has fallen as drastically as it has risen, leaving traditional wine producers to search for new markets.
