The Savoy Hotel in London has completed the first phase of a £45m refurbishment of its guestrooms and suites ahead of schedule, as part of a major redesign programme to update the Grade II-listed property.

The work, which began in August 2024, was delivered by construction and refurbishment specialist Edgewater Contracts. The project combined sensitive restoration of the hotel’s Edwardian and Art Deco features with modern fit-out and design, including the creation of a new signature river balcony suite.

Restoration work included the preservation of original fireplaces, cornices and 50 chandeliers, while bespoke joinery and finishes were produced at Edgewater’s 40,000 sq ft manufacturing facility.

Franck X. Arnold, regional vice president and managing director of The Savoy, said: “We knew from the outset that delivering a transformative project of this scale, within a legendary heritage Grade II listed building, would demand the highest standards of planning and execution to ensure minimal disruption to our treasured guests.

“Edgewater not only delivered on that promise but completed the works ahead of schedule.”

The hotel will see the second phase of works begin in January 2026, scheduled to run until December that same year.
