Chatsworth Escapes has officially opened a new hotel – The Hide – on the edge of the Chatsworth Estate in the Peak District, which has been described as an affordable base for visitors to the area.
The 25-room hotel has been developed by the team behind the Cavendish Hotel at Baslow. It is aimed at families, walkers, dog owners and travellers seeking access to the surrounding countryside.
Inspired by the landscape of moorland cabins and stone barns, The Hide features interiors designed with reclaimed materials and locally made furnishings. Historical prints, artefacts and photographs connected to Chatsworth appear throughout the building, alongside works by local artists Doreen Lowe and Grahame Wheatley and pieces from the Devonshire family’s private collection.
Accommodation ranges from compact rooms for one or two people to larger family and bunk rooms. Locally woven blankets and estate-made curtains use British wool, while furniture has been sourced and restored by local makers.
Food at the hotel is overseen by executive chef Adam Harper. The on-site Grill and Pizzeria serves dishes such as grilled meats, wood-fired pizzas and burgers using ingredients from Chatsworth farms and nearby suppliers. During summer, guests can eat on an outdoor terrace overlooking open countryside.
Visitors have access to 35,000 acres of parkland and moorland as well as entry to Chatsworth House, gardens and farmyard. Additional activities include fishing on the River Derwent, use of the Chatsworth health club and golf course, and private house tours when closed to the public.
The opening coincides with a wider programme of events at Chatsworth, including art and literature exhibitions and its annual Christmas celebrations, which begin on 8 November.
