Jadran Hoteli Rijeka and Marriott International have signed a franchise agreement that will see the Grand Hotel Bonavia in Rijeka, Croatia, convert to an AC Hotels by Marriott. The signing took place on October 2 and was attended by city officials with speakers including Vedran Vivoda, deputy mayor of Rijeka, Kristian Šustar, CEO and member of the management board of Jadran hoteli Rijeka, and Silvija Lovreta, Marriott International’s VP of development for Central and Southeastern Europe.

The agreement marks the third international franchise partnership for Jadran Hoteli Rijeka as part of its strategy to strengthen its portfolio and improve the city’s hospitality offering.

“By bringing the AC Hotels by Marriott brand to Rijeka, we are not only modernizing and repositioning one of the city’s most iconic hotels, but also creating a meeting point where global standards intersect with the uniqueness of Rijeka. This partnership strengthens our vision of Rijeka as a destination that speaks to international travellers while staying true to its cultural identity. It is a clear signal that Rijeka is ready to compete on the world stage — and that Jadran hoteli Rijeka will continue to be a driver of growth, innovation, and excellence in the region’s tourism industry,” said Kristian Šustar.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Jadran hoteli Rijeka to introduce AC Hotels by Marriott to Rijeka. This property will reflect the brand’s purposeful design, flexible spaces, and signature moments for a new generation of discerning business and leisure travellers. Croatia remains an important market for Marriott’s expansion plans in the region, and we continue to see a strong demand for our renowned brands in the country.” said Silvija Lovreta.

“We are pleased to have Marriott as a partner at our side, bringing a well-aligned brand concept to this location while enabling a financially sustainable operation. AC Hotels by Marriott fits exactly with our vision of a contemporary hotel operation in Rijeka – high-quality, clearly positioned, and with a long-term perspective,” said Stefan Catic, head of operator search at PKF hospitality group.

Vedran Vivoda said the agreement strengthens Rijeka’s position in European tourism and adds value to its hospitality offerings. He said the city supports projects that promote long-term tourism development and reinforce Rijeka’s identity as an open and modern destination.

With Grand Hotel Bonavia joining AC Hotels by Marriott, Jadran hoteli Rijeka continues its focus on international collaboration and development within the city’s tourism sector.
