Strengthening Scandic’s footprint in Hamburg

Scandic Hotels has signed a long-term lease for its third hotel located in downtown Hamburg. The project is part of the transformation of the central train station district, which will include new offices, event spaces, restaurants, and hotels.

Ideally located, the upcoming hotel will have direct access to the bus terminal as well as metro and commuter train lines. The development is aligned with the group’s strategy to add 15,000 rooms to its portfolio by 2030, driven in part by targeted expansion in Germany.

“Hamburg is one of Europe’s most dynamic major cities and a strategically important market for Scandic. The new hotel in downtown Hamburg will further strengthen our presence and continue to deliver on our strategy of responsible expansion in Germany.” – Jens Mathiesen, CEO, Scandic Hotels Group

A joint development with B&L Group

The project will be developed by B&L Group, which also owns the building housing Scandic Hafenpark. The hotel will cater to both business and leisure travelers and will complement the 430-room Scandic Berliner Tor, scheduled to open in 2030.

“The new Scandic hotel in the StadtKontor scheme marks a significant milestone to convert and revitalise one of the largest office ensembles in Hamburg’s up-and-coming district of St. Georg. With the further use of tied-up grey energy and the energy-efficient refurbishment, a pioneering range of modern working environments is being created.” – Thorsten Testorp, CEO, B&L Group

Hamburg: a key hub for Scandic’s European growth

Hamburg, Germany’s second-largest city and Europe’s third-largest port, records over 16 million hotel nights annually. Scandic currently operates the 340-room Scandic Emporio and plans the opening of Scandic Berliner Tor, reinforcing its local presence.

“Our ambition is to establish hotels in areas with a constant movement of people. Being entrusted to open a third hotel in Hamburg within a short timeframe is proof that we have our guests’ and partners’ confidence to build further on our expansion journey.” – Jesper Engman, Chief Development Officer, Scandic Hotels Group
