China: The dual-branded Shangri-La Traders and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport hotel has deployed the XMAN-R1 humanoid, developed by KEENON Robotics.
The hotel officially opened earlier this week as Shangri-La’s fifth property in Shanghai and the global debut of the refreshed Traders brand.
KEENON’s humanoid service robot XMAN-R1 has assumed the role of a greeter. Through natural language and lifelike movements, it can greet arriving guests, present a welcome gift, and help to answer questions.
The core behind XMAN-R1 is the company’s self-developed KOM2.0 – a vision-language-action (VLA) model for the service industry. The model allows the humanoid to understand and perform complex tasks, integrating vision, speech and movement.
In addition, KEENON ProS is a specialised model developed specifically for the hotel industry. It serves as a professional training software for the robot to learn skills and responsibilities for assigned roles.
XMAN-R1 is supported on-site with special-purpose robots such as W3 which handles in-room deliveries; transport robot S100 for luggage; cleaning robot C40; and robots T10 and T3 handle restaurant food deliveries.
The project aims to demonstrate how “collaborative operations between general-purpose and special-purpose robots” can “practically enhance hotel operational quality and guest stay experiences”.
A video of the XMAN-R1, C40, S100, T10, T3 and W3 robots in action at the Shangri-La Traders and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport hotel can be watched here.
