A move toward task-based search that compares options and suggests available tables

Nov 5, 2025

Google is rolling out an experimental version of AI Mode that can find and initiate bookings for restaurants, live events, and wellness appointments. The feature is currently limited to U.S. users in Search Labs and requires specific account settings, but signals Google’s direction toward agentic, task-completing search experiences.

Key takeaways

  • Multi-site booking search: AI Mode can check availability across several restaurant, ticketing, and service platforms and return real-time options.
  • Three initial categories: The experiment currently supports restaurant reservations, event tickets, and wellness appointments.
  • Personalized queries: Users can specify details like party size, neighborhood, cuisine, price range, seating section, or preferred appointment time.
  • Booking still happens off-site: The user is redirected to the provider’s page to finalize the purchase or reservation—Google handles discovery and comparison, not the transaction itself.
  • Limited access and requirements: Only eligible U.S. users with Search Labs access, a personal Google account, and Web & App Activity enabled can test the feature.
  • Agentic search direction: The experiment indicates Google is moving beyond information retrieval toward task execution, reducing friction in planning and booking activities.
