Meliá Hotels International has announced two new developments as part of its expansion in the Middle East and Latin America. The company will open its first property in Bahrain on Amwaj Island in 2027 and a new The Meliá Collection hotel in Argentine Patagonia in 2028.

The upcoming Meliá Hotels & Resorts property in Bahrain will include 256 units, comprising 150 hotel rooms and 106 branded residences managed by Meliá Hotels International. The project reflects the company’s strategy of combining premium hospitality with residential offerings.

Among its planned amenities are five swimming pools, dining and retail outlets, wellness areas, gardens, and MICE facilities. The hotel will also feature Beso Beach, described as a Mediterranean-style beach club offering cuisine, private cabanas, and members-only areas.

“Bahrain represents a unique opportunity to strengthen our presence in the Middle East. Its growing influence as a source market, combined with the development of high-value destinations, makes it a strategic hub for our brands. Being present and recognized in a region that is redefining global tourism is a key part of our long-term vision,” said Gabriel Escarrer, chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International.

“Partnering with Meliá Hotels International marks a significant milestone in our mission to shape Bahrain’s future as a premier tourism destination. At Infracorp, we are committed to creating sustainable, high-impact developments that elevate the country’s global appeal. With Meliá’s international prestige and our deep-rooted expertise in infrastructure and lifestyle projects, this collaboration will deliver a transformative hospitality experience on Amwaj Island,” said Majed Al Khan, CEO of Infracorp, the developer behind the project.

The company also announced The Meliá Collection Terrazas del Gutiérrez, a new hotel in Bariloche, Argentina, located within Nahuel Huapi National Park. The property will offer 99 rooms and 48 residences with lake and mountain views.

“The Meliá Collection Terrazas del Gutiérrez” will feature dining venues, wellness areas, and 500 square meters for social and corporate events.

“We are thrilled to bring our brand The Meliá Collection to Bariloche, one of Argentina’s most iconic destinations and a symbol of Patagonia’s natural beauty and hospitality. This major project reflects our commitment to qualitative growth, our focus on luxury, and our ambition to continue expanding in the region,” said Escarrer.

“We are passionate about Argentine Patagonia—its people, its nature, and its unique energy. Terrazas del Gutiérrez is envisioned as the gateway to one of the world’s most extraordinary natural paradises, and we are proud to do so alongside a strategic partner like Meliá. Their excellence in hospitality and world-class standards will help position Argentina among the world’s most exclusive destinations. This is just the beginning of a shared journey: we will continue to create world-class infrastructure and authentic experiences that reflect the essence of the place we call home,” said Ivo de Sousa Freile, Executive Director of Terrazas del Gutiérrez.

With these projects, Meliá Hotels International continues its expansion in key global markets, focusing on destinations with growing tourism and long-term development potential.
