The survey also revealed that regional Christmas markets remain a popular festive day out, with 49% choosing them over London events.
Bath was named the nation’s favourite market, followed by Edinburgh, York, Birmingham and Manchester. Respondents said they valued atmosphere, food and drink, and the setting.
The Polar Express Train Ride was voted the top festive family outing, ahead of Winter Wonderland, Edinburgh’s Christmas market and the Santa Express on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Traditional Christmas meals also remain dominant. Turkey is expected to be served by 65% of respondents, followed by gammon at 28% and beef at 24%.
Casual clothing is set to define the day, with 45% planning to dress comfortably and a quarter opting for a Christmas jumper. Five per cent said they would stay in pyjamas.
A Travelodge spokesperson said: “The nation clearly loves its seasonal traditions, whether it’s visiting a Christmas market, sporting a festive jumper or tucking into a turkey feast.”
