Pellicano Hotels Group has released further information on its plan to restore La Suvera, a historic estate in the Tuscan countryside, ahead of a scheduled reopening in 2027.

The site, around 30 minutes from Siena, will become the group’s second destination in the region as part of a wider expansion programme.

First announced in 2024, the project centres on converting the property – originally a 12th-Century fortress later reworked into a Renaissance villa – into a hotel with about 60 rooms and suites. The group has allocated more than €53m (£46.5m) for acquisition and restoration.

Chief executive and creative director Marie-Louise Sciò will oversee the works, which aim to preserve the villa’s eclectic interiors, formal Italian gardens and consecrated church while adding modern facilities. Plans include a spa, two swimming pools, three bars, a fitness area, a tennis court, event spaces and an ISSIMO boutique.

Sciò said: “Our aim is to protect and celebrate the estate’s original spirit – from Peruzzi’s architectural gestures to the cultivated gardens – while creating experiences that feel both quietly luxurious and deeply rooted in place.”

According to Pellicano, the investment aligns with its approach of developing hotels in locations that emphasise local heritage and cultural identity.

The group added that La Suvera offered a rare chance to restore a site of significant historical value, expanding its presence in Tuscany alongside Hotel Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole.
