Since opening its first concept, The Charles, in 2018, Duro Hospitality has quickly become one of the premier dining groups in Dallas. Its concepts vary from the ultra-luxe steak and seafood palace Mister Charles, to Italian and Mexican concepts, to a charming coffee shop, and even a boutique hotel.

Duro recently expanded to Fort Worth, opening The Chumley House for dinner on November 25. It’s billed as a European-inspired steakhouse with British flair, and it was named after Duro Hospitality partner Chas Martin’s dog.

“Fort Worth has always held a special place in our hearts,” said Benji Homsey, a Duro Hospitality partner. He went to college at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, and Martin grew up there, so they feel connected to the city.

The restaurant sits on Camp Bowie Blvd., next to a couple of new hotels and on the edge of the Culture District, which houses Fort Worth’s best museums. The Chumley House is 3,500 square feet across multiple rooms, with 90 seats inside and 25 more outdoors, and was designed to evoke a classic British manor with modern touches. That’s evident in the rich mahogany woods, custom fireplace, saddle leather banquettes, and English hunting motifs seen throughout the space.

“Our goal was to make guests feel as though they’ve stepped into a luxurious, old-world setting,” said designer Corbin See, who is also a partner in Duro Hospitality. “The Chumley House is a blend of English coziness with a touch of opulence, like entering an elegant yet intimate space full of history and character.”

The Chumley House menu features European-inspired cuisine with global influences, including a few creative interpretations of Indian dishes as another nod to the United Kingdom.

Every meal begins with freshly baked scones and a cup of rose lychee tea before moving on to options such as chilled seafood, salads, pies and pasta, steaks, and other mains, sides, and desserts.

Standout dishes include chilled prawns with Kashmiri cocktail sauce and smashed avocado, a butter chicken pie with an herb salad and charred spring onions, cacio e pepe mafaldine with pecorino crisp and pink peppercorn, long bone lamb tandoori with harissa carrots and yogurt, and beef Wellington with duxelles and tasso ham.

The restaurant also offers a steak selection, which is always a smart move in Fort Worth, but it goes beyond the usual suspects. There’s a filet from Oregon, an Akaushi New York strip, and Plume Brand’s famous “Plume de Veau” veal chop. Steaks can be topped with the diner’s choice of au poivre, chimichurri, or horseradish cream sauce.

Sides range from saag paneer with chickpeas to beef tallow popovers with cultured butter, and desserts include sticky toffee pudding and an ice box pie.

The cocktail menu features a selection of spritzes followed by classic-ish cocktails, like subtle riffs on the Old Fashioned and Martini, and not-so-classic cocktails that are Chumley House originals. Wines are sourced from major wine regions like Napa, Bordeaux, and Burgundy.

Chumley House is Duro Hospitality’s eighth concept. A company representative said the group will continue to expand and has new projects in the works, but details aren’t yet ready to share.
