The 225-room Hotel Indigo Auckland in New Zealand has opened, marking the IHG brand’s entry into the country and expansion in Australasia.

The hotel, built on the site of a 1912 motor house, blends heritage-listed and new construction. Interiors include works by local and regional artists, including a photography exhibit by Stuart Robertson across all 25 guest floors. Robertson’s work, part of his Peace in 10,000 Hands project, reflects neighborhoods across Auckland.

Designer Simone Haag curated the hotel’s public spaces. The lobby features a mix of ceramics, wood, leather and glass. Artist Raukura Turei created two installations using natural elements linked to ancestral land and Māori traditions.

Guestrooms include industrial-style design choices referencing the site’s motor heritage. Features include open wardrobes, headlamp-inspired lighting and rearview mirrors above beds. Carpets display local street maps. Rooms are stocked with locally sourced minibar items like Kokako coffee, Karma soft drinks and Zealong Tea Estate teas. Bathrooms include GHD hair tools and products by MARACA, part of a custom line developed for the hotel.

Bistro Saine is the hotel’s primary dining outlet. Led by executive chef Yutak Son, who trained in France, the restaurant serves French and Mediterranean dishes with seasonal and local ingredients. Bistro Saine was developed in partnership with Ingram Advisory. Two more outlets are set to open: Café Etiquette, serving coffee and wine, and The Henry, a cocktail-focused lounge.

Hotel Indigo Auckland occupies 27 floors of a 41-story tower. The upper levels include 30 residential units, including three penthouses. The hotel features a gym on the second floor equipped with strength and cardio machines, as well as a Reformer Pilates unit.

The property is within walking distance of the Sky Tower, SkyCity Casino, the Viaduct, Britomart and the future New Zealand International Convention Centre. The area is one of Auckland’s business and entertainment hubs.

“The hotel’s design was meant to reflect Auckland’s neighborhood character and history,” said Matthew Simister, general manager of Hotel Indigo Auckland.

“This opening supports our strategy to expand IHG’s luxury and lifestyle brands across the Pacific region,” said Matt Tripolone, regional managing director at IHG. This is the fifth Hotel Indigo property to open in Australasia.
