Gray’s Crossing Hospitality has broken ground on The Mtn Scout Truckee, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. The 129-room boutique hotel will be located in Northern California’s Lake Tahoe Basin and is scheduled to open in early 2028. Huff Construction and H-CPM are partners on the development, and PM Hotel Group will operate the hotel under Marriott Bonvoy’s brand portfolio.

The project was announced during a ceremony attended by Truckee Mayor Jan Zabriskie, Gray’s Crossing Hospitality managing partner Matthew Abbate and other local officials. The new hotel expands hospitality offerings in the region and is part of the Village at Gray’s Crossing.

“This hotel serves as both an integral piece of the Village at Gray’s Crossing and a cornerstone of the community, elevating the après scene in Truckee-Tahoe when it opens,” said Matthew Abbate, managing partner at Gray’s Crossing Hospitality. “Together with our partners who share our commitment to reinvigorating the original vision for this development, we can’t wait to welcome guests.”

“After successfully developing the Village at Gray’s with our partners the Abbate Family and Verakin, The Scout hotel marks the next step in creating a truly complete destination,” said Brad Ardis, president of Huff Construction. “This project represents a strategic investment in the region’s future and demonstrates our development team’s continued leadership in shaping places where people want to live, stay and thrive.”

“H-CPM is excited to partner with the dynamic ownership team on a project that truly reflects the heart and values of ownership and the community,” said Stephen Siegel, principal at H-CPM. “The Scout hotel will create a welcoming space where both locals and visitors can connect, celebrate, and experience the community’s unique character for years to come.”

The hotel will include a lobby-level restaurant and bar, outdoor gathering areas with fire pits, courtyard hot tubs, an event hall with garden and patios, a fitness center and valet gear storage for guests. A third-floor whiskey bar and lounge named Tunnel 6 will reference the historic railroad tunnel near Truckee built during the construction of the first transcontinental railroad.

Architecture is being led by Andrew Goodwin Designs, with interiors and branding by Sixteenfifty Creative Intelligence. The hotel’s design aims to integrate with its natural surroundings in the Tahoe Basin and align with contemporary living at Gray’s Crossing.

“The Scout hotel embodies a new age of architecture and sustainability that speaks to regionalism first, recognizing the mountain community of Truckee and paying homage to everything this community stands for—past, present and future,” said said Andrew Goodwin. “AGD prides itself on specifically working on projects that advance these principles into the next generation by providing excellent service and design.”

“Working with ownership, we distilled a vision into genuine touches throughout the design to tell the story of Truckee’s vibrant culture, epic experiences, and scenic beauty while respecting its history and heritage,” said Rob Wells, founder of Sixteenfifty Creative Intelligence. “It’s the ultimate escape from a non-stop reality, ideally located for scouting all that Truckee and the Tahoe Basin have to offer.”

The Village at Gray’s Crossing also includes 24 modern mountain residences and affordable housing units. The broader development offers resort-style amenities, a golf course, trails, and green spaces, with additional plans for future development.
