Lancaster House Hotel in North Lancashire has agreed a collaboration with physiotherapist Mark Leather to host a new treatment room at its on-site health club as part of plans to broaden clinical services for guests, members and local residents.
The arrangement will see the physiotherapy clinic, which operates across Lancashire and South Cumbria, base part of its team at the Sandpiper health and fitness club at Lancaster House Hotel. The practice approached the venue due to access to the club’s facilities, including a pool used for hydrotherapy and rehabilitation programmes.

More on Lancaster House
Leather qualified as a physiotherapist in the 1980s, beginning his career in the NHS before moving into professional football. He spent more than a decade in the Premier League as head physiotherapist for Liverpool and Sunderland, and has also worked with Preston North End, Burnley, Brighton, Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Warriors, as well as serving at the Commonwealth Games.

Leather said: “We have a multi-disciplinary approach to our physiotherapy services, from sports or work related injury treatment and post-surgical care through to soft tissue massage and rehabilitation techniques such as hydrotherapy.
“Lancaster House Hotel is a conducive working environment which allows us to provide more joined up treatment and recovery programmes. With the treatment room in the Sandpiper health club and access to the pool, it ticks all the boxes.”
He added: “Every patient has their own individual requirements depending on the nature of their injury. So we pride ourselves on giving each of them a bespoke treatment, rehabilitation and prevention plan.”
The hotel is run by English Lakes Hotels Resorts and Venues, and has three treatment rooms available for independent businesses. Leather’s practice joins mobile beauty therapist Tracey Houghton and hair stylist Samantha Riley at the site.
General manager of Lancaster House Hotel Emma Underwood said: “A physiotherapist of Mark’s standing and prominence offering his expertise here is great for the hotel and adds to the wider range of services we can provide. There cannot be many hotels which have their own in-house physiotherapy team to call on.
“Hopefully the team’s regular presence here will also give Lancaster residents the chance to access physiotherapy treatment from some of the best in the business.”
