The Grand, York has opened SubRosa, a new spa created following a £2.8m refurbishment of the hotel’s basement vaults. The venue offers an expanded range of treatments and facilities as part of what the hotel described as a significant upgrade to its wellness offer.
The spa features marocMaroc rituals inspired by Moroccan traditions, including hammam and rasul treatments that use argan oil and amber. SubRosa is also the first spa in the North of England to introduce experiences by SeaBody, a biotech brand whose marine-based products are used in facial treatments. An Immersive Sunlight Experience has been added to support relaxation.
New facilities include a Tirol hot sauna, Himalayan salt sauna, Salt and Light Therapy room, herbal steam room, herbal lounge, large hydrotherapy pool, foot spas and a relaxation room.

Three treatment packages are available: Rosa, a full-day experience with a 60-minute treatment, day access and a rasul ritual for two; Alba, a half-day option that includes a 50-minute treatment, spa access and lunch; and Radix, an evening package offering spa access, dinner and a glass of Champagne.
Emma Sorby, spa director, said: “After a six-month refurbishment, we are delighted to now be open. SubRosa doesn’t just offer spa treatments, it delivers thoughtfully curated wellness experiences for each guest, across mind and body, blending globally respected traditions with scientifically advanced products.”
Alongside the spa, The Grand has launched a new SubRosa restaurant serving dishes influenced by Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai and Korean cooking. The menu includes chicken katsu, shoyu pork belly ramen, tempura tiger prawns and vegetable bao buns.
Adam Dyke, general manager, added: “SubRosa is an incredibly exciting new chapter of The Grand’s story. The significant investment has delivered a spa unlike anywhere else in the city.”
SubRosa is now open to day visitors and hotel guests, with bookings available for treatments, packages and dining.
