In a statement posted on Instagram, the restaurant confirmed that it has mutually ended its partnership with the Knightsbridge department store having been unable to install its custom-built oven and grills.

“We regretfully announce that Burnt Ends will not be opening at Harrods, London,” the statement reads.

“Despite our best efforts over the past year, we couldn’t overcome the challenges of installing our four-tonne wood burning ovens and grills in the historic Grade II listed building.

“As a result, we have mutually ended our partnership. We wish Harrods and their team all the best.”

A spokesperson for Harrods added: “For over a year, Harrods and Dave Pynt have been working closely to bring his celebrated Burnt Ends concept to London. Despite working tirelessly to bring Burnt Ends pioneering open fire and barbeque vision inside Harrods to fruition, it has ultimately proved too challenging within Harrods historic Grade II-listed building. Being unable to overcome these physical challenges, it is regrettable that the partnership has come to an end. We wish Dave and the entire team at Burnt Ends the very best.”

Plans for Burnt Ends to open in Harrods were announced in March last year.

Founded by chef-owner David Pynt, who launched Burnt Ends as a pop-up in the city back in 2012 before moving the concept to Singapore the following year.

The restaurant is now located in Singapore’s Dempsey Hill and serves modern Australian barbecue with dishes cooked over wood on a custom built, duel cavity oven with elevation grills.

It is currently ranked at number 34 on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list and at number 15 on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
