Design Hotels, the community-driven collection of hotels under Marriott International, is looking to expand its global footprint and has signed several new properties across the world. The hotel brand has signed new hotels in the U.S., Mexico, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, Singapore and Bali.

Design Hotels has announced 29 new agreements and 10% growth of its global portfolio in the last 12 months. The new and upcoming properties will open in diverse locations, such as near the Black Sea coast of Batumi, Georgia to residential areas of Tribeca in New York City.

In an effort to cement its position in the U.S. and Mexico, the brand has added seven new destinations across the two countries. Design Hotels has added 10 properties in the U.S. and surpassed 25 properties in Mexico. Building upon its existing partnership with Firmdale Hotels and Grupo Habita, the brand has launched new agreements with hotel companies Drift Hotels and ASH.

Warren Street Hotel in Tribeca, New York City.
  • The 69-room Warren Street Hotel, Firmdale’s hotel in Tribeca, New York City, opened in February.
  • ASH, by hoteliers Ari Heckman and Jonathan Minkoff, opened Ulysses, Baltimore and The Dean, Providence.
  • With boutique hotels in San Jose del Cabo, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs and Nashville, Drift Hotels opened the 104-key Drift Nashville in July.
  • In California, Design Hotels added Hotel 850 SVB in West Hollywood and will be opening Granger Hotel Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego later this year, bringing the brand’s portfolio across the state to 14.
  • In Mexico, Design Hotels has signed Tinte Hotel (anticipated to open in 2026) in the Yucatan Peninsula, Hotel Sevilla in Mérida and Hotel Humano at the southern end of the beach in Puerto Escondido. With these, Design Hotels will have 26 open and signed properties across Mexico.

Design hotels will be opening three properties in Switzerland, bringing the brand’s portfolio to 15 hotels in the country. The brand will be adding its fifth location in Georgia and opening properties in Istanbul, Singapore and Bali.

The Home Hotel Zurich in Switzerland.
  • The Home Hotel Zurich, which opened this August, reimagines a former paper mill to feature 132 rooms, a lobby and lounge and dining venues.
  • Scheduled to open by the end of this year, Hôtel Borsari will open in Martigny, Switzerland and offer 51 rooms. The hotel is surrounded by gorges, thermal springs, mountain trails and terraced vineyards.
  • Rooms Batumi Hotel will mark Design Hotels’ fifth property in Georgia and the first in the resort destination on the Black Sea. Showcasing a 1970s retro design, the hotel consists of 120 rooms, a rooftop pool, cocktail bar and a restaurant.

“As we expand our global portfolio, each property reflects the visionary spirit of its ‘original’ owner, ensuring that Design Hotels continues to push boundaries and deepen community,” said Stijn Oyen, managing director, Design Hotels. “That sentiment translates to that intangible Design Hotels’ experience – where every stay feels uniquely personal and is infused with the passion of its creator.”

Oyen was recently named managing director of the brand, which is currently in its fourth decade of operation. Design Hotels’ overall global portfolio comprises nearly 300 independently owned and operated hotels across almost 60 countries. Based in Berlin, the brand has an affiliation agreement with its parent company, Marriott International.
