Belden House & Mews has opened in Litchfield, Conn. The property covers three acres near the Litchfield Green. Developed by the Troutbeck team, it involved Champalimaud Design, PBDW Architects and Reed+Hilderbrand landscape architects.
The hotel includes the 1888 Belden mansion, a 1959 addition and the 1891 Firehouse. It offers 31 guestrooms and suites, a dining room, bar, bathhouse and pool.
“Fire and history erased its predecessors. We welcome guests to a restored home, sharing Troutbeck’s values,” said Anthony Champalimaud, founder.
Belden House features a reception, Living Room and Dining Room. The bar serves local spirits and cocktails. Chef Heckman offers seafood and produce. A Library doubles as a private dining room.
Ten guest rooms are in the Belden home, each averaging 400 square feet. Suites and rooms include fireplaces, balconies and soaking tubs. The three-bedroom Penthouse has a private living room, dining room and rooftop terrace with butler service.

The Mews has 21 guestrooms and suites, averaging 430 square feet. Some Mews rooms have private terrace gardens. Two rooms feature balconies with pool and Litchfield Hills views.
“We wanted to embrace the locale throughout our design, collaborating with local makers and craftsmen to create a color journey full of warmth and curiosity. Four poster beds, artisanal lighting and grasscloth wallcoverings sourced in Litchfield establish a genuine connection to the place, elevated by historical details like the building’s original fireplaces and original moldings. We highlighted the contrast between Belden House’s traditional spirit and the modernism of the 1950s-era Mews building, where furniture silhouettes inspired by midcentury art and architecture bring splashes of color to tonal room envelopes,” said Courtney Brannan, principal designer.
The Bathhouse offers fitness equipment and a wet area with a sauna, steam room and Japanese Ofuro tub. Treatments include massage and acupuncture. A 50-foot outdoor pool is available seasonally. Bathhouse services are for Belden guests.
The Firehouse, opening mid-2025, overlooks Litchfield Green and will offer event space. The property is a two-hour drive from Manhattan and near downtown shops and natural attractions, including White Memorial and Bantam Lake. Bicycles and electric vehicle charging are available.
