UK/Norway: Two Radisson hotels located in Manchester and Oslo have achieved the group’s Verified Net Zero status, meeting the requirements set out by the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels.

The existing Park Inn by Radisson Manchester City Centre has been renovated and repositioned as Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre.

The current Park Inn by Radisson Oslo City Centre will be renovated and rebranded to Radisson RED Oslo City Centre, launching operation in the beginning of July 2025.

Both properties have achieved Verified Net Zero status by following the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels, developed by the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance and verified by a third party, TÜV Rheinland.

The program includes using or purchasing 100 per cent renewable energy, modifying menus to limit food waste, and reducing transportation emissions.

The Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre installed heat pumps for hot water and an electric kitchen using induction cooking. The hotel also buys 100 per cent renewable energy.

Radisson RED Oslo City Centre will also be powered by renewable electricity and heating provided by the city. Oslo uses fully renewable energy for its district heating by using renewable heat generated from multiple sources such as city waste treatment or data centres.

To minimise waste, the Verified Net Zero hotels have partnered with companies such as Nespresso, Too Good to Go and eSmiley to either donate or recycle products that would otherwise end up in landfills.

Radisson has also partnered with Swedish company Klimato to create low-carbon menus for guests. Menus feature rankings for each recipe’s carbon footprint from A (best) to E (worst).

Federico J. González, executive vice chairman at Radisson Hotel Group, said: “Radisson Hotel Group aims to become Net Zero by 2050. While the move is easier in new build properties, the reality is that 80 per cent of the buildings that need to become Net Zero by 2050 are already built. We believe it is critical to move as fast as possible with these existing buildings.

“Today, we are demonstrating that Net Zero conversion hotels are possible. In a conversion approach, the Manchester and Oslo hotels prove that non-sustainable hotels can become high performing asset classes with a positive impact on the planet. This approach needs to be serious and verified. And we are doing so with TÜV Rheinland. These Verified Net Zero hotels bring the future forward and offer guests the pinnacle of sustainable stays,” he added.

Chief sustainability and security officer at Radisson Hotel Group, Inge Huijbrechts, said: “With the opening of our first two Verified Net Zero hotels, Radisson Hotel Group demonstrates its commitment to Net Zero 2050, and to showcasing truly sustainable hospitality. For the first time, we focus on reducing emissions from energy, operations and the supply chain. As we face the evolving challenge of climate change, Radisson Hotel Group is taking an essential step in reshaping the future of hospitality, one Verified Net Zero hotel at a time.”

Highlights:

• Radisson has introduced its first Verified Net Zero hotels in Manchester and Oslo.

• The hotels meet the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels standards, verified by TÜV Rheinland.

• Sustainability features include renewable energy, electric kitchens, and low-carbon menus.

• Radisson plans full Net Zero by 2050, focusing on converting existing buildings.
