China: Luxury hotel company Shangri-La Group has launched its ultra-luxury brand Shangri-La Signatures with the opening of The Silk Lakehouse in Hangzhou.
Located on the shores of West Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Silk Lakehouse is housed in the former Xiling Hotel.
Designed by Belgian interior architect Gert Voorjans and Spanish designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, the transformed property is inspired by a Jiangnan silk merchant’s home.
68 rooms and suites provide views of West Lake or the hotel’s private gardens. Rooms feature freestanding bathtubs and AI-responsive mattresses.
Hotel amenities include an indoor swimming pool and four F&B venues. Led by Michelin-starred chef Alan Yu, The Living Room will offer a modern Western dining experience while the bar, in partnership with San You, will serve creative cocktails.
The Golden Silk dining venue will reinterpret classic Hangzhou dishes, and the Tea House will host immersive tastings of local teas.
Each guest is also paired with a dedicated host via the hotel’s Personal Host Programme, who can help arrange activities including tea ceremonies, incense making, enamel craft, silk weaving and more.
Future properties under the Shangri-La Signatures brand will be “envisioned as a refined private residence… rooted in local heritage” and offer “immersive experiences across art, wellness, gastronomy, and storytelling” said the company.
