Pacha Hotel in Ibiza Town has become the first hotel on the island to achieve LEED Platinum certification, the highest global rating for sustainable buildings.

Awarded by the US Green Building Council and administered by Green Business Certification Inc, the certification recognises the hotel’s environmental performance across categories including energy, water and material use. Pacha Hotel scored 83 points, qualifying it for the top tier of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system.

The Pacha Group, which owns the hotel, said the certification marked a wider commitment to sustainability across its operations.

In 2024, the company reported a 39% cut in carbon emissions at the hotel through its transition to 100% renewable energy. Water consumption also fell 7% across the group, which operates other venues including Pacha Ibiza nightclub and Destino Five Ibiza resort.

The hotel’s sustainability efforts include sourcing food locally via Ibiza’s 0 KM programme to reduce transport emissions and support the island’s economy.

Kabir Mulchandani, chairman of the Pacha Group, said: “We are thrilled to be the first hotel in Ibiza to achieve LEED Platinum certification. This milestone reflects our dedication to creating unforgettable experiences while prioritising environmental responsibility, ensuring that the spirit of Ibiza thrives for future generations.”

Jaydeep Anand, chief development and sustainability officer, said the certification “sets a new benchmark for sustainability in Ibiza”.

The group aims to secure LEED Gold or higher certification for Pacha Ibiza and Destino Five Ibiza. It also highlighted the work of the Pacha Foundation, which has invested €500k (£431k) in local initiatives focused on social welfare, environmental protection and cultural arts.

Located near the Pacha Ibiza nightclub, the 57-room Pacha Hotel features minimalist design and access to the island’s nightlife. The group marked its 50th anniversary in 2023.
