Grand Metropolitan Hotels has announced that it cut ties with 7Pines Hotels and Resorts, raising doubts over the luxury brand’s long-term prospects.

The decision, effective immediately, ends the company’s cooperation with 7Pines, which is part of Düsseldorf-based hospitality firm 12.18. Group.

Grand Metropolitan cited concerns over the “stability and continuity” of 7Pines, pointing to the reported dissolution of its brand development team and the sale of its flagship Ibiza hotel “without brand affiliation”.

Walter Neumann, chief executive of Grand Metropolitan Hotels, said: “In light of these circumstances, we view the outlook for the 7Pines brand as critical and uncertain.”

He added that Grand Metropolitan continues to work with several “growing” brands, including those under the Destination by Hyatt label. The company’s next hotel – in Opatija, Croatia – is set to open under the Destination by Hyatt brand in spring 2026.

7Pines founder and chairman, Martin Smura, said the group prioritised “well-founded and solid partnerships” with a long-term focus.

Smura added: “Our ambition is to manage brands that are not only attractive today, but that endure in the long term and generate sustainable value creation.

“Stability and reliability are the decisive success factors – not only for us, but above all for our investors and our hotel partners.”

Grand Metropolitan’s shift toward established partners such as Hyatt was aimed at strengthening its portfolio and offering owners access to wider distribution, global standards and growth potential.
