South Asia: Hospitality group Accor has named Ranju Alex as CEO of South Asia, covering India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Alex joins Accor from Marriott International where she most recently held the role of regional VP for South Asia. She began her career with The Oberoi Group before joining Marriott in 2010.
In her new role, Alex will oversee more than 70 hotels in the South Asia region with over 30 hotels in the pipeline.
“I am delighted to join an organisation with the most comprehensive and exciting portfolio of brands in the region,” said Alex. “It will be an honour to lead the group’s vision in this region, and I eagerly look forward to this exciting role.”
Earlier this year, Accor announced a joint venture with travel conglomerate InterGlobe. The JV, subject to receiving the necessary regulatory approvals, will consolidate both parties’ owned assets, development and management businesses in India into one platform.
The new entity will become the vehicle to grow all Accor brands across India, including luxury and lifestyle brands from Ennismore.
Gaurav Bhushan, chairman of the proposed JV, said: “We are extremely pleased and excited to welcome Ranju to the Accor and InterGlobe family. She brings a wealth of rich experience, skills and relationships into our business and we look forward to building the foremost hospitality platform in the region under her leadership.”
