Choice Hotels International has tapped McDonald’s executive Joshua Sloser as chief commercial officer, the company announced Tuesday.

In his new role, Sloser is tasked with developing and implementing Choice’s commercial strategy as well as overseeing the company’s digital channels, revenue management, third-party distribution and customer service. Sloser will report directly to Choice President and CEO Patrick Pacious.

Sloser joins Choice from McDonald’s, where he served as global senior vice president of customer and commercial innovation. At the fast food giant, Sloser oversaw food concepts, technology and operational processes across 40,000 restaurants worldwide, per Choice.

Prior to his stint at McDonald’s, Sloser spent nearly a decade at Choice competitor Hilton, holding multiple executive roles including vice president of digital product and innovation, according to his LinkedIn.

Sloser comes aboard as Choice capitalizes on “strong international momentum,” Pacious said in a statement. During the company’s second-quarter earnings, Choice announced plans to accelerate growth in Canada, specifically, through its July acquisition of the remaining 50% interest in Choice Hotels Canada.

“As we accelerate our global expansion and deepen customer engagement, Joshua’s proven ability to drive innovation, lead cross-functional teams, and deliver measurable commercial outcomes will be instrumental,” Pacious said.

Sloser fills a spot left vacant by Choice’s former chief commercial officer, Robert McDowell, who departed in January to pursue other opportunities, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Other hospitality companies to recently name new chief commercial officers include Marriott International, Remington Hospitality and Aimbridge Hospitality. Several notable hospitality executive moves happened in the second quarter.
