Urban lifestyle hotel brand CityHub has announced the appointment of Remco Gerritsen as its new chief executive office, as the brand prepares for the next stage of its European expansion.
The Netherlands-based company, founded a decade ago by Sem Schuurkes and Pieter van Tilburg, operates hotels in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Copenhagen and Reykjavik. It plans to double its network across major European cities over the next few years.
Gerritsen takes over leadership from Schuurkes and van Tilburg, who will step back from their dual chief executive roles to join the board. They will continue to oversee long-term strategy and brand development.
Gerritsen has more than 25 years of international experience in hotel operations, development and brand management. He was most recently director of hotels at International Hotel Capital Partners, where he oversaw projects including Renaissance Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Moxy Amsterdam Schiphol, Marriott The Hague and Hilton Garden Inn Leiden.
His previous roles include senior positions at PPHE Hotels, Azimut Hotels, IHG Hotels, NH Hotels and Maritim Hotels.
Schuurkes said: “When we launched CityHub, our goal was to offer today’s travellers a new and better way to stay with a hotel that was more affordable and sustainable, without compromising on quality. Seeing that idea grow into a brand which resonates in international markets has been incredible, and now, with strong foundations in place, this is the right time to bring in new leadership to accelerate growth further.”
Gerritsen added: “What Sem and Pieter have created is impressive, and I look forward to building on their vision as we expand CityHub further. Guests today expect more than a bed – they want authentic connections to the city, seamless technology, and a responsible approach to travel. CityHub has captured that perfectly, and the potential to scale the concept globally is enormous.”
Founded in 2015, CityHub combines compact, pod-style accommodation with digital check-in and app-based guest services. The brand’s hotels emphasise sustainability and social spaces designed to connect travellers with the local community.
