Zeal Hotels has been named ‘Green Building Project of the Year’ at the Edie Net Zero Awards 2025 for its Voco Zeal Exeter Science Park development.
The awards recognise organisations leading the transition towards a net-zero carbon economy across the UK.
Zeal Hotels was selected from a shortlist of nine projects, which included British Land’s Marylebone headquarters and Lloyds Banking Group’s 33 Old Broad Street building.
The 142-room hotel is targeting being the first in Western Europe to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding rating, recognising its low-carbon design and fit out. It has already achieved the rating at the design stage.
Voco Zeal Exeter Science Park has received several recent sustainability awards, including three Gold titles at the Food Drive Devon Awards for Sustainability Pioneer, Hospitality Restaurant and Hospitality Hotel Restaurant.
The hotel has also been awarded a Gold accreditation from Green Tourism, the sustainable tourism body, for meeting the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility across its operations.
Tim Wheeldon, founding director of Zeal Hotels, said: “We are thrilled to have been named as Green Building Project of the Year at these prestigious awards, particularly against such a strong set of high-profile projects.
“It is a testament to our fantastic team and our brilliant partners, RED Construction and SolarEdge Technologies, that we are able to compete at such a high level. At Zeal Hotels we have created a repeatable sustainable prototype model, and hope to inspire the hotel sector and lead by example.”
Zeal Hotels is currently exploring additional development sites across the UK.
