The Queens Hotel in Leeds has been awarded Green Key accreditation, recognising its performance in sustainable operations and environmental responsibility.

The international eco-label is given to tourism establishments that meet strict standards in environmental management, staff engagement and guest education. The Queens met 13 criteria to qualify, including measures on energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation and sustainable sourcing.

The accreditation adds to the hotel’s existing sustainability credentials, which include Green Tourism Gold, Green Meetings Gold and Greengage EcoSmart awards.

Hotel staff formed a Green Team that worked with sustainability consultancy Mission Net Zero to implement and monitor environmental practices. These include assessments of room temperature control, appliance efficiency, gas emissions, kitchen operations and overall energy use across the building.

Green Team leader, Sunil Lad, said: “Achieving the Green Key Accreditation is a fantastic milestone for the hotel and a real testament to the teamwork and commitment shown across all departments. We’ve worked hard to embed sustainability into our daily operations, so this recognition reinforces our belief that sustainability isn’t just an initiative, it’s part of who we are and how we operate at The Queens.”

The Queens also runs social responsibility programmes, including partnerships with local charities and initiatives to support community engagement and staff wellbeing.
