Hotel du Vin St Andrews has completed a further phase of refurbishment and increased staff numbers by 20% over the past year, as it prepares for the return of The Open Championship to the town in 2027.
The hotel has invested a further £300,000 in upgrading its public areas, following the completion earlier this year of a £1.1m refurbishment of its bistro, bar and 42 bedrooms. The work is part of a wider programme to update the property, which is located on The Scores in St Andrews.
The latest investment brings total recent spending at the hotel to £1.4m. The refurbishment has been timed to coincide with preparations for the championship, which is expected to bring a large influx of visitors to the Fife town.

Over the same period, the hotel’s workforce has grown by 10 people to 50 staff. The business said the expansion supports its focus on a “wine first” approach, placing wine at the centre of the guest and dining experience.

Hotel du Vin St Andrews has recently received several industry and consumer accolades, including inclusion in the Notable Wines Award 2025–26. It has also been listed among the top 16 restaurants in Fife by Fife Today and holds an AA Rosette for the 2025–26 period.
The hotel is part of the wider Hotel du Vin group, which operates 19 properties across the UK. The brand was founded in 1994 and is known for its bistro-style dining and wine-led offering.
Commenting on the developments, general manager Andrei Secuianu said: “The completion of this further phase of investment is important in correctly positioning us, not only within the local market but also on the international stage as we gear up to welcome The Open.
“In order to deliver the best service, we need the best people, and we have been working hard to build a team that can carry forward our ambitions for the future with energy and enthusiasm.”
