The Lion Hotel and Restaurant, a 17th Century property in the village of Berriew in Montgomeryshire, Wales, has officially been taken on by new operators following a leasehold sale at an undisclosed sum.

The business has been acquired by Roshan and Srishankar, who have more than a decade of experience in the London hospitality sector.

Sculptor Andrew Logan and Michael Davis opened up the property in 2018 as a boutique hotel with seven en suite bedrooms and three dining rooms. The 400-year-old building combines historic features with contemporary interiors and bespoke mirrored artworks by Logan.

The sale marks the founders’ decision to step back from the business after eight years of operation.

Logan and Davis said they believed the venue would benefit from a new approach, adding that they expected it to become more food-led under its new operators.

According to Roshan and Srishankar, they plan to position the site as a destination restaurant and hotel, with an emphasis on hospitality and Welsh produce.

James Dodd, business agent at Christie and Co, who managed the sale, said: “We are thrilled to see The Lion Hotel and Restaurant preparing to reopen under new stewardship. This iconic Jacobean property in Berriew has always held huge potential as a destination venue, and the new operators are bringing fresh energy and vision to the site.

“We look forward to seeing the Lion re-establish itself as a go-to spot for exceptional dining and boutique stays in the heart of Mid Wales.”
