Republic Investment Company and Capstone Equities have acquired the 100-key Smyth Tribeca in New York and selected Rebel Hotel Company to oversee operations.
The new ownership group plans to build on the hotel’s existing features, aiming to elevate the guest experience and reinforce its standing in the downtown market. Enhancements are expected in 2026, following over $10 million in prior investments made between 2018 and 2023. These included a lobby redesign by Meyer Davis, suite upgrades and a reimagined fitness center.
“Smyth Tribeca has long been a discreet favorite among creatives, celebrities, and downtown tastemakers,” said Evan and Aaron Nehmadi of Republic Investment Company. “With this acquisition, we’re excited to restore and elevate the property’s identity, bringing it into a new era. The hotel’s scale, prime location, and design flexibility make it one of the most compelling lifestyle opportunities in the city right now.”
Smyth Tribeca features 88 guestrooms and 12 suites, some with floor-to-ceiling windows, Carrara marble bathrooms and private terraces. Two food and beverage outlets are operated by Mercer Street Hospitality: Smyth Tavern, which serves American fare and dry-aged steaks, and Galerie Bar, a cocktail lounge with curated art and fireplaces.
The hotel also offers nearly 7,000 square feet of event space, including the penthouse and the cellar-level Red Room. Its location provides access to 17 subway lines and proximity to Brookfield Place, the 9/11 Memorial and Hall des Lumières.
“The Smyth is a rare gem. A boutique hotel that boasts a distinctive personality, a prime location, and a solid foundation,” said Brian Sparacino, President and CEO of Rebel Hotel Company. “We are excited to work with the ownership to create the next chapter and offer a more elevated, experience-driven stay that appeals to today’s travelers—especially as Rebel continues to expand its luxury presence.”
The acquisition is the seventh New York hotel purchase by Republic and Capstone, whose portfolio also includes The Renwick, Ink48 and Life Hotel New York. Founded in 1983, Republic brings over four decades of experience and continues to expand its hospitality investments.
With no existing brand or management contracts in place, Rebel and the new owners plan to gradually reimagine the hotel while maintaining its connection to the neighborhood and understated style. Updates are expected to focus on design, programming and curated service.
