Events and hospitality operator Hangover Weekends has acquired Park Farm Hotel near Gateshead for an undisclosed sum.

The property, on the western edge of Gateshead, comprises a Grade II-listed Georgian house with four bedrooms and 12 additional letting rooms arranged in a rear courtyard.

It is set in four acres of land adjoining farmland and paddocks. The hotel, which closed in 2024, had operated as a family-run business and previously featured on the television programme Four in a Bed.

Hangover Weekends plans to redevelop the site into short-term rental accommodation.

Andy Simpson, director of Hangover Weekends, said: “Our plan is to transform the property into two large, short-term rental properties, each comfortably sleeping upwards of 18 guests. The location should appeal to both families looking for a rural escape and also groups looking to take advantage of being just five miles from Newcastle city centre and all its amenities.

“The listed part of the property will remain in keeping with its history and farmhouse-style aesthetics, and we will also be carrying out some landscaping work, adding hot tubs and fire pits to create some excellent outdoor social spaces for guests to enjoy.  We are also rebranding and changing the name to Tyne View Estate – Farmhouse and Stables.”

The sale was handled by Mark Worley, director of hotels at Christie and Co, who added: “Despite its closed status, the sale of this property generated a tremendous amount of interest from viewers and potential buyers across a wide variety of sectors, and for numerous ongoing usage schemes.

“Our seller clients live adjacent to the property and so were cautious about who would be their new neighbours, however, such was the level of professionalism from the team at Hangover Weekends, that an instant bond was formed, which is hopefully the beginning of a longstanding neighbourly relationship.”
