1912 Hotels St Pauls Ltd, the newly established UK subsidiary of Hamburg-based 1912 Hotels GmbH, has completed its first British acquisition with the purchase of the Mercure Sheffield St Paul’s Hotel and Spa for an undisclosed sum.
The four-star, 169-room hotel is located in Sheffield city centre, overlooking the Peace Gardens and Winter Garden.
It offers a spa with an indoor heated pool, sauna, steam room, ice fountain and fitness centre, alongside a restaurant, champagne bar, and conference facilities for up to 550 guests.
The acquisition marks the start of 1912 Hotels’ expansion into the UK market.
The group, founded in Hamburg, operates across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Poland and the Czech Republic, with a strategy focused on brand partnerships, lease agreements and long-term investment in hospitality assets.
Legal and business services firm DWF advised on the transaction, led by corporate partner Alan Barnett and real estate associate Oliver Palmer, with support from tax, licensing and employment specialists.
Duncan Gray, managing director of 1912 Hotels, said: “We are thrilled to have completed our first UK acquisition with the support of DWF. Their team’s expertise and collaborative approach have been instrumental in helping us establish a strong foundation for our UK expansion.”
Barnett added: “We’re delighted to have supported 1912 Hotels on this landmark acquisition. It’s a significant step in their UK growth journey, and we’re proud to have brought together a strong multi-disciplinary team to deliver a seamless result.”
