A 43-bedroom, limited-service hotel on the A40 in Monmouthshire has been brought to market on a new lease at £75,000.

Raglan Lodge, which is currently not trading, is located in a motorway-style service area northbound on the A40.

The hotel forms part of a large site at Monmouth Northbound Services, which includes Asda Express, Starbucks, Greggs, Burger King and Subway.

Its road connectivity places it just a mile from the A449, linking south to the M4 at Newport and north to the M50 and M5, with access to the Midlands and the South West.

The A40 connects into the Heads of the Valleys Road network, which is currently undergoing a major improvement programme scheduled to complete in 2025.

Originally opened by Granada and later operated under the Travelodge brand, the hotel was refurbished and relaunched as Raglan Lodge in 2017. It has “ample” parking and includes 43 en-suite bedrooms arranged across a single storey.

The site also includes three meeting rooms located within the adjacent amenity building, and the freeholder is open to discuss terms for them to be used with the hotel.

These rooms, each accommodating 10 to 12 people, can be combined via folding partitions to form larger spaces, with the potential for small conferences, team away days, or leisure group bookings.

The current owners, Asda, said the “time is right to hand the reins of the operation of the hotel to a hospitality-focused operator”.

Peter Brunt, director in the Hotels Agency team at Colliers, who is handling the sale, added: “Raglan Lodge is a great example of an underused asset with huge potential. It’s ready to go with the right operator, someone who can bring energy, branding and professional management to a location that already benefits from strong traffic and excellent facilities.”
