The family that runs four-star hotel Tewinbury Farm in Welwyn has completed its acquisition of Hertford House Hotel and the adjoining Quiet Man pub for over £2.2m, following the administration of their previous operator.

All staff roles have been safeguarded as part of the transfer, with employees moving over to Tewinbury.

Hertford House Hotel, which consists of two converted Georgian townhouses, has 28 en-suite bedrooms alongside a ground floor bar and restaurant. The neighbouring Quiet Man pub on Parliament Square seats around 40 people inside, with additional outdoor space to the front and rear.

The Williams family, which has run Tewinbury farm and hotel since 1931, said they intend to blend rural influences with the venues’ town-centre location. Brothers Jack, Tom and Sam Williams, the third generation involved in the business, will lead the development.

In a statement, the family said: “Our vision is to bring the farm to Hertford, offering seasonal food made with local produce from our land. Just as importantly, we are committed to keeping The Pub a truly independent pub, a place that remains as special as it is today, with a strong community focus at its core.”

They added that the acquisition would allow them to “make the whole site into something the town can be proud of”, while ensuring the pub retains its independent character.

Elysia Wilson-Gunn, divisional director of Fleurets, who handled the sale, added: “We are very pleased to have completed the sale of this prominent freehold asset, which generated strong interest from the market resulting in a competitive best bids process.”

The sale brings Hertford House Hotel and the Quiet Man into the portfolio of Tewinbury, a riverside farm and hotel near Welwyn, where the Williams family has been based for almost a century.
