First announced earlier this year, the move is being billed as a ‘significant milestone’ for Jöro, which blends elements of Nordic and Japanese cuisine and until now has been housed in a shipping container in Krynkl in Kelham Island.

The restaurant’s relocation will form part of a larger dining destination developed by the couple that will also encompass two bar areas and an outdoor BBQ kitchen concept located on the terrace.

“We’re incredibly excited about this new chapter for Jöro,” says French.

“We have been searching for quite some time for a new home, which will allow us to really push the whole experience to the next level.

“We really wanted to make sure that we enhance the characteristics everyone knows and loves in our tasting menus, but with more space for the team, and additional areas for our guests to enjoy the experience.

“Having the separate terrace concept and bars allows us the space to alleviate the pressure of turning tables, as well as bringing new concepts to Oughtibridge”.

Operating in partnership with Big Green Egg, the new terrace menu will be prepared using live-fire cooking techniques and include grilled Scottish scallops; salt aged Yorkshire beef rump cap; and whole teriyaki quail.

The site will also offer five studio rooms and two, one-bedroom apartments, giving guests the chance to stay for a foodie night or weekend.

Designed by the couple, the rooms will be Scandi-inspired, offering views of the Peak District border, and will include a kitchen, ensuites and homemade continental style breakfasts delivered to the room.

Alongside this there will be a retail offering called Shop by Jöro, a deli shop within the mill, selling a range of everyday ingredients including teas, coffees, Jöro’s own wine and gin, and cured meats.

“As soon as we saw the site a couple of years ago we were immediately drawn to it, and we just couldn’t let it go,” says Stacey Sherwood-French, discussing the plans.

“It has the beautiful views of the mill and Peak District, yet is only a 10-minute drive from our current location in the city centre.

“We’re excited to continue our mission of bringing new and exciting experiences to the city, the scope of space at the mill will allow us to really showcase hospitality at its best.”

Jöro launched back in 2016 and has previously featured on the National Restaurant Awards top 100 list.

Alongside Jöro, Luke French and Stacey Sherwood-French also operate east Asian street food brand Konjö, which currently has a site in Sheffield’s Cutlery Works food hall; and boutique hotel brand House of Jöro, which is also located in Kelkham Island.

The pair intend to retain the shipping container site that previously housed Jöro and relaunch it under their Konjö brand.
