Starwood 2.0: Barry Sternlicht’s new vision for hospitality

🏨 Barry Sternlicht, founder of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, plans to relaunch the brand in spring 2025, a decade after selling it to Marriott International for $13.6 billion. The revival includes 14 hotels across Baccarat, 1 Hotels, and Treehouse Hotels. SH Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary, aims to expand luxury and sustainable hospitality with over 30 hotels and residences across four continents and 13 countries. 1 Hotels is set to open in Melbourne (2025), Paris (2027), and Riyadh (2027), focusing on sustainability and wellness. Baccarat Hotels plans openings in Rome (2025), Florence (2026), and Dubai (2026). Treehouse Hotels will expand to Sunnyvale (2024), Manchester, Miami (2026), Adelaide (2027), and Riyadh (2028). Sternlicht targets 22 more Starwood hotels by 2028, eyeing a strong return to the global hospitality industry.

FITUR 2025: A record edition steering the tourism industry toward the future

Hyatt continues to expand in the UK with the opening of a dual-brand hotel in Leeds

🏨 Hyatt to open two hotels in Leeds on March 10, 2025, with a £62.7 million investment. The Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands will feature a combined 305 units – 217 rooms and 88 studios/suites. Rising Results: Groups Confirm Their Dynamism in 2024

🏖 Compagnie des Alpes reported €261.8 million in revenue for Q1 2024/25, a 30.7% year-over-year increase; ski resorts division up 19.7% with a 2% rise in skier-days; Distribution & Hospitality division increased by 25.4%. Theme Parks revenue grew by 37.5%, with attendance up by 17%. Now owns 86.4% of Urban Group. Targets approximately 10% EBITDA growth for the fiscal year. CapitaLand Ascott Trust (CLAS) saw a 6% revenue increase to S$423.2 million in H2 2024, with a 6% rise in REVPAU and occupancy rate up to 81% from 77% last year. CLAS portfolio valuation increased by 1% or S$72 million.

Mecca to welcome the world’s largest Courtyard by Marriott

Whitbread reaches a milestone with the opening of 1,000 new Premier Inn rooms in 2024

Minor Hotels accelerates global expansion with 300 new hotels by 2027

🏠 Minor Hotels aims to reach over 850 properties by 2027, growing from its current count of over 560 hotels and 81,000 rooms. With half its portfolio in Europe, the group will diversify with over 100 new properties in Asia, 60+ in the Middle East and Africa, and 40 in Australia and New Zealand. They plan to add 47,000 rooms in three years, focusing on luxury and upscale segments, wellness, and branded residences.
